Grand Turk Island Hurricane Ike Relief Print

Grand Turk Island Hurricane Ike Relief

On September 7, 2008, Hurricane Ike barreled through Grand Turk Island, British West Indies, causing major damage throughout the low-lying island. Initial estimates indicate that Hurricane Ike damaged 80 percent of the island's homes, leaving about 750 people homeless. For the under 4,000 people living on Grand Turk Island, life is not expected to return to normal for the foreseeable future.

In the coming days and weeks, this web site will be updated to include information on what you can do to assist Hurricane Ike relief efforts.

We just returned from Grand Turk. The island was hit hard by the hurricane. There are many people working hard to rebuild and get their lives back to normal. I was very impressed with the help that was provided by ShelterBox. If you have not heard or are not aware of what ShelterBox is about, you need to take a look at this program at http://www.shelterbox.org/

Had the pure pleasure of visiting this amazing island in Feb. 2008. My heart aches for the people we encountered and the beautiful places we saw. Though the recovery process will be long and difficult, I have faith in these good people to rise above the destruction and reclaim their island. May God bless.
